Because my ideal job is to teach 3rd-5th grade, I went out and found a blog that has to do with
teaching higher grades. Though I'm still not completely sure that I can make a positive impact on the students I come in contact with, and although I'm not sure I'm going to be 100% satisfied with the career path I am choosing, Marcia gave me hope. She said that her job as a teacher keeps her "challenged, interested, and revitalized" which I know is something that I will need through out my life. She gives helpful insight that has made me realize this career path I am trying to follow will be exciting and fun. It will be challenging at times, but Marcia gave me the motivation and direction that I needed in my life.
Marcia also posts different activities that she has had her fifth grade students do, which included an assignment on Veteran's Day. They had to listen to a song, read a poem, and look at pictures. Then the students had to write a letter to a Veteran thanking them for their service.
I enjoy this blog because it doesn't focus on just the testing the students have to do or certain subjects, it instead focuses on the whole idea of being a teacher and the positive aspects associated with it.

Technology in Education
I started going into a fifth grade classroom in Oshkosh, WI in the month of October in 2014. I article about how teachers can effectively implement technology in their classrooms which sparked some interest in how I intended to use technology when I become a teacher. immediately noticed one major difference between when I was in elementary and what is currently happening in the classroom-Technology. The advancement of technology has really changed the way that children are thinking nowadays. When I was in school, we had desktop computers, but things like SmartBoards and tablets were non-existent. I recently read an
One of the things this article brings up is the fact that once technology is introduced, the teacher is no longer going to be the center of attention. This makes a lot of sense when you think about it, but just because the teacher isn't the center of attention doesn't mean that the students aren't learning. I think that if you are able to successfully integrate technology into the classroom, then the students will actually learn more because they can be at their own pace. The children that are slower learners won't fall behind because they are able to work at a level they are comfortable with.
This article also talks about the different activities possible depending on the situation you are, whether you just have one computer, 5 computers, or a computer for every single student. I know that as a teacher, just like the article stated, I'm going to have to be familiar with the new technology and know exactly when it is appropriate to be used. I'm actually very excited to be able to teach in this time, because I know that technology will have so much to offer for the students.
My Teaching Philosophy
One of the biggest, and I believe most important thing that I would like to include in my classroom involves Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. I realize that each individual student is different and learns in a way that is not the same as all of the other students. I want to be able to incorporate all 8 of the different intelligences into my classroom and know where each individual child thrives. When I was in elementary school, I remember it was very difficult for me to sit in one spot with out being able to get up and move. I actually started losing concentration because I was so focused on the fact that I needed to be able to move. I want to be sure that the students in my class don't have to worry about that. I want to be able to keep them focused on the tasks presented and not on anything else.
I was also a very hands-on person. I learned best by being able to do it myself. I think that children have their own ways to learn and fortunately there are even more possibilities with the advancement in technology.
I'd like the students in my class to actually have fun and not dread coming to school. I do believe that although there are certain standards that the teachers and students have to meet, it is 100% possible to make learning both relevant to the individual child as well as fun.
About Me
Ever since I was a child, I enjoyed everything about education. It probably stemmed from the fact that both of my parents were teachers, but when a new topic was presented that most kids would have disliked with a passion, I was absolutely was thrilled. Whether it was learning how to add double digit numbers or teaching my stuffed animals using my average sized chalk board, I loved it. I was always excited about learning new things because that meant I would have more to teach my stuffed animals later on. I started preschool when I was only 3 years old because I just couldn't wait to get into school. Now, if everything works the way as planned, I won't leave the classroom for a long while.
Growing up in South Texas, I was able to experience a whole different culture. My classmates were able to speak fluent Spanish and most of them actually struggled with the English language. It was interesting to be a minority, and I gained a lot of insight from it. As much as I called that home, I knew I wanted to get out of there and experience a new place and culture. So, I ended up here in Wisconsin. I'm excited to start my teaching career with Elementary students hopefully somewhere in the Fox Valley area.
